Define Your "Workout Why"

What is a "Workout Why"?
Your Workout Why is your own motivational mantra. It's personal to you and it is what will carry you through your fitness journey when you feel like giving up. It is the very reason why you decided to embark on this fitness journey.
Why do I need to define my "Workout Why"?
You don't have to.
You can go with something vague, like "I need to lose weight because I'm fat".
How does that sound? Are you motivated? Do you want to go workout now?
Didn't think so.
When you define your Workout Why, you uncover your true motivation. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "Fitness is a mindset." Well, it is. You have to get in the right mindset and really understand the driving force behind your decision to go for it and make some serious lifestyle changes in order to reach your fitness goals.
How Do I Define My "Workout Why"?
It's actually quite easy. Three simple steps:
1. Define your "How".
2. Relate your "Why".
3. Combine your "How" & "Why" into one powerful statement.
Defining your "How"
Think for a second about "how" you got here. How did you come to the decision that you needed to do something about your health? There are usually a set of circumstances or series of events leading up to your decision to get healthy. Get back in your head about what you were feeling. What were your thoughts? Emotions? Write that down!
Relating your "Why"
Now take a moment to figure "why" you decided to do something about your "how". What was driving factor behind your decision to get healthy? What was the purpose behind making your health a priority? What are the outcomes you are expecting? Write that down!
Creating your "Workout Why"
Combine your "how" and "why" into a powerful statement that is meaningful to you and that will motivate you to keep pushing forward even when you don't feel like it. The more personal it is to you, the more powerful it will be.
Here's an example:
My "How"- I just had my third baby and I was staring into my closet thinking "I have NOTHING to wear." I was six months post-partum and I was still wearing maternity clothes! My pre-pregnancy clothes were still too tight for me to wear. That's when I knew I had to do something.
My "Why"- I was faced with the decision to either buy new bigger-sized clothes to wear until I lost more weight, or suck it up and try to lose that pregnancy weight the old-fashioned way. I hated the way I looked and I hated looking into the mirror because I did not like what I saw.
My "Workout Why"- TODAY I NEED TO GET MY ASS OUT OF BED BECAUSE I refuse to buy bigger-sized clothes and I'm tired of hating the way I look and feel.
Now What?
You're not quite done!
Write your Workout Why down at least three different times on three different pieces of paper and put it somewhere where you can see it DAILY.
You can place it on your nightstand next to your alarm clock, on your bathroom mirror, on your fridge, in your car or even as your cellphone wallpaper!
Use this as a reminder of why you started your fitness journey and look at it when you're in need of some motivation. Now go workout!
